Football loving fans in the parish of Westmoreland and St Ann are still in a celebratory mood as their beloved Reno and Benfica respectively are in the Digicel Premier League.

Reno’s comeback after a one-year hiatus was capped off when they drilled Spanish Town outfit Meadows 4-1 at the Spanish Town Prison Oval on Sunday. The three-time Premier League champions finished atop of the Jamaica Football Federation All-Island Confederation Play-offs' standings with 10 points, and are joined in the DPL by St Ann team Benfica who finished second, also on 10 points but with an inferior goal difference.
KSAFA champions Cavalier who were leaders going into the final round of games with eight points, were beaten 2-0 by Benfica at Drax Hall and could only finish third ahead of Meadows on five. At Prison Oval, Reno fell behind after Kenroy White gave the home team a 17th-minute lead. But the visitors responded swiftly as Kenroy Hutchinson fired home in the 19th minute to silence the home fans who were still celebrating their goal.
Former National Under-20 midfielder Evan Taylor put Reno in front in the 26th minute as the half ended 2-1. Sheldon Bryan and Trimine Perry then profited from goalkeeping errors to score and solidify victory. |
